I am very happy that I could call Stephen my friend, out of all the people who had that honour I am probably the one who has known him for the shortest time. I only met him at all thanks to my kidneys giving up the ghost in January of this year and I was put onto dialysis at the same unit as Stephen.
I found him a bit strange at first until I realised it wasn't him it was his dementia that was a bit weird and underneath was a fantastic man whose personality was fighting against it. For 3 afternoons a week he became the one who kept me going when dialysis got me down, usually by singing along to songs he remerbered and telling me that 'this was my Friday night' when a real favourite song came on.
He was a genuine lovely man and he made an otherwise stressful time much more bearable, also I would like to thank Daniella as she helped my wife understand what was happening to me a lot more through her experience.
You will be sadly missed by anyone who had the pleasure of knowing you.
